Born in 1978 in Derbyshire, UK, Kevin David Brown grew up in his hometown of Matlock, Derbyshire.  Attending Highfields School until 1996, Kevin moved to Guildford to study at the University of Surrey.  As part of his undergraduate studies, in 1997 Kevin spent three months at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), Moscow, Russia and in 1999, 6 months in St. Petersburg teaching English as a foreign language at the International Benedict School.  Suspending his studies for 12 months, Kevin remained in Russia to undertake an internship at Kodak in Moscow.  Kevin returned to UK in 2000 and graduated BSc (Hons) Linguistic & International Studies in 2001.
 

Shortly after graduating, Kevin was employed by IMC Consulting Ltd (now WYG International Ltd) in 2001 and returned to Moscow for another 15 months to work on EU-funded socio-economic development projects.  In 2003 Kevin moved to Lugansk, Ukraine to join a UK Department for International Development-funded regional economic development programme where he stayed for 3½ years.  During this time he completed MSc e-Business Management at the University of Surrey, commuting regularly to Guildford and graduating in 2004.  Whilst based in Ukraine, Kevin undertook missions to Kosovo totalling 6 months to work on an EU-funded  employment regeneration programme, and in 2005 he began visiting South Africa to support an EU-funded local economic development programme.

In 2006, still with WYG International, Kevin relocated to Durban, South Africa to advise the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government on EU procurement for two years.  Kevin spent a further two years in Durban working on a variety of EU-funded and other internationally-funded development projects focussed on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education and e-Learning.  On sabbatical from WYG in July 2010 Kevin began “Cape2Cape...by bicycle”, reaching Port Said, Egypt in December 2010.
